Miscellaneous Projects

BatDate was a very insightful project for me as it helped me to interact with the technicalities inherent to games design. This project furthered my understanding of Excell and its uses as well as taught me how to create a functional and interactive piece of numeric design. Integral takeaways from BatDate was making values intuitive so that designers are able to alter and understand the document as the game goes through its iterations, this is reinforced by using text boxes containing simple but effective language to denote the mechanics of the game and how they interact with one another. This was particularly important due to the fact that multiple variables altered the way that a narrative sequence would play in the game. Keeping the document aesthetically consistent with the game itself was also helpful as it wasn’t something I was used to doing in Excell but evidently gives the work a nice polish that would help a team of designers better engage with the project.

Overall, BatDate helped me understand numeric design better through the use of Microsoft Excell and the importance of having the project be both aesthetically and mechanically effective.
