Games Design
Here are some games design documents with commentary detailing what I’ve learned from them.
Grisville is one of my third year university projects. In this module I had to make a game which focused on game narrative. To the right is my games design document (GDD) this is the bedrock of a game and is used so that everyone invloved in creating the game have a unified vision of what that game is. To ensure this I included an executive summary of the game, gameplay overview, design pillars, the game’s core loop, mechanics, ten minutes of play, moodboard and a gameplay mock up.
Overall, the creation of this documnet was really important as it made me identify core components of my game from narrative, ludic and theoretical aspects and how to present them in a meaningful way that is accessible to others and serves as a touchstone to the game’s development.
These two documents look at how theory helps inform my game design as well as conveying examples of primary documents I make in order to keep track of branching narratives and the importance of diverse characters in my game which act as touchstones to refer to as screenwriting and coding takes place.
